St. Luke's is a parish of the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana. The diocese is spiritual and authoritative center of Episcopal/Anglican Churches in this area.
Christ Church Cathedral is the See of our Ordinary Bishop. There, the Right Reverend Morris Thompson was enthroned as the 11th Bishop of Louisiana this past Spring.
Our Diocese is but a small part of the Episcopal Church of the United States of America. Our Presiding Bishop is the Most Reverend Katharine Jefferts Schori, the 26th Primate of the American Church. The Episcopal Church is a member of the worldwide Anglican Communion. The leader of the Communion is the Most Reverend Rowan Williams, the 104th Archbishop of Canterbury.
Throughout the Episcopal Church, the chief liturgical resource is the 1979 Book of Common Prayer. Our Lessons are taken from the New Revised Standard Version of the Holy Bible. Episcopalians often refer to our Catholic heritage as a credal faith in that it is based on proclamations of historic Church Councils and the writings of the great Patristic Fathers and Doctors of the Church. Many of their works are collected at the Christian Classics Ethereal Library.
