The Reverend Edward Hnebe Thompson
In January 2014, with the Blessings of The Right Reverend Morris K. Thompson Jr (Bishop of Louisiana), Reverend Edward Hnebe Thompson began serving as the Priest-in-Charge (Part-Time) at St Luke’s Episcopal Church in New Orleans. He also currently serves as Priest-in-Charge (Full-Time) at the All Souls Episcopal Mission in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The Reverend Edward Hnebe Thompson came to New Orleans from St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in St. Croix, the United States Virgin Islands, where he served for eight years and seven months as rector and pastor. Before St. Croix he served as assistant vicar for one year at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and for eighteen months as priest-in-charge of St. Martin’s on the northwest side of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Born and educated in Liberia, West Africa, Edward Thompson was ordained deacon in 1989 and priest a year later, having received the Bachelor of Theology degree from Cuttington University College in 1988 and the Associate of Applied Science in Electronics Engineering from Tubman College of Technology in 1984, both in Liberia. He served as minister-in-residence at St. Paul’s Church in Tubmanburg and later Curate at Trinity Cathedral in Monrovia, Liberia’s capital. During a lull in Liberia’s 15-year civil war, 1989-2003 he traveled to Lagos, Nigeria for a nine-month continuing education course, obtaining a Certificate of Proficiency in Evangelism and Church Growth in 1992. Father Thompson was serving as administrative assistant to the Bishop of Liberia and Vicar of St. Timothy Episcopal Church in Monrovia when in 1997 he was granted a scholarship along with his family to pursue graduate studies at Nashotah House Theological Seminary in Wisconsin, USA. Following successful completion of the Masters of Divinity degree in 2000, he returned to Liberia to serve as chaplain and instructor of comparative religion and Christian ethics at his alma mater.
Edward Thompson is married to the former Vashti Josephine Collins, a union blessed with Alfred, Levi, Gershom and Vashèd. He is an Associate of the Confraternity of the Christian Life (CCL), which is an affiliate of the Order of the Holy Cross (OHC), and of Rotary International. (edit. TB)
We welcome Father Thompson and his family to St Luke's.
